Putting the models together
NOTE: THIS IS USED FROM THE HIVEWORKSHOP AS AN EXAMPLE!
Importing the model High Elf Altar
This model has not been approved in the resource section and is not guaranteed to be working.
InfoThis is an automatically generated tutorial. It will guide you through the process of importing the model High Elf Altar. Please note that all the screenshots in this tutorial were made using a Macintosh, however it should be no problem to interpret what is equivalent on a Microsoft Windows or Linux machine.
Extract and Access
I am assuming that you already have downloaded the HighElfAltar.zip and know where it is located on your local hard drive. The file is compressed as a zip archive. This will make it faster to download and decrease the bandwidth on the server. However, you will need an application to unpack the archive. You can unpack the archive with software like WinZip and Total Commander. Applications to unpack archives on a Mac and Linux are standard. You will need no other applications in order to unpack the archives.
When you have extracted the archive, it should look like this:
readme.html high elf altar.mdx readme.txt High Elf Altar
Open World Editor and click Module -> Import Manager:
This is the Import Manager. From here you can add and remove custom files from your map file:
Importing high elf altar.mdx
Now Click the "Import File" Button:
Next select 'high elf altar.mdx' in the folder which you extracted from the zip archive:
readme.html high elf altar.mdx readme.txt High Elf Altar
The file has been properly added to the map archive:
high elf altar.mdx Model ... war3mapimported\high elf altar.mdx
Done, you have imported the file high elf altar.mdx.
Bind model to object
So now you have imported the model and its skins. Now you can add the model to a unit or an object. Open up your Object Editor:
Select a unit/object you would like to bind to the model and double click this field:
This will open up a menu for you to select a different model you wish to bind to the unit:
high elf altar.mdx
Now click the "Import:" field and select high elf altar.mdx:
high elf altar.mdx
You're done
You have now imported your model. Don't be afraid when you place the object and it appears to be a purple cube. Just close the map and open it again and it will look fine in the World Editor.
